From Spintex Road showrooms to Osu retailers, we break down what the Accra furniture market actually looks like — and how to identify quality before you spend.
The furniture market in Accra has never been larger — or more confusing. There are dozens of showrooms across Spintex, Osu, East Legon, and Tema, selling everything from budget Chinese imports to genuine European-standard pieces. Knowing how to navigate it matters before you spend.
This guide does not rank showrooms by preference. Instead it explains how the market is structured, what price ranges correspond to what quality tier, and what questions to ask before committing.
How the Accra furniture market is structured
The Accra market broadly divides into three tiers. The first is budget imports — largely Chinese-manufactured flatpack or assembled pieces, typically found on Spintex Road and Tema. Prices are low (GHS 1,000–5,000 for bedroom sets), and the quality reflects it. These pieces often deteriorate within 2–3 years in Ghana's humid climate.
The second tier is mid-range imports, which includes Turkish-manufactured furniture and some higher-end Chinese production. This is the segment that offers the best value in Accra — European-standard manufacturing at prices that are genuinely accessible to the upper-middle-income Ghanaian buyer.
The third tier is European-imported pieces — branded European furniture shipped directly. Quality is exceptional, but prices (typically GHS 40,000+ for a bedroom set) limit this market to a narrow premium segment.
What to look for in any showroom
Before you spend, do a physical quality check. Open a wardrobe door and feel the hinges — quality pieces use Blum or equivalent European hinges that close silently. Pull a drawer on a bedroom set — it should extend fully and close with a soft-close mechanism. Check the back panel of any case furniture — quality pieces use at least 9mm panels, not cardboard.
The Turkish furniture advantage in Accra
Turkish furniture occupies a unique position in the Accra market. Turkey's furniture manufacturing sector was built to supply European retail — IKEA, H&M Home, Maisons du Monde — which means the quality baseline is genuinely different from budget Asian manufacturing. At Exen Furniture on Spintex Road, all stock is directly sourced from Turkish factories, arrives assembled or flat-packed with full hardware, and comes with a 2-year guarantee.
Questions to ask any furniture retailer in Accra
"Where is this manufactured?" — If the answer is vague, assume budget Chinese. "What is the warranty?" — Reputable retailers offer at least 1 year. "Is assembly included?" — This matters more than most buyers realise. "Can I return if there is a defect?" — The answer tells you a great deal about the retailer's confidence in their own product.
